Type 2 Diabetes Alert!

Please read this article if you or someone you know has Type 2 Diabetes.  There is a highly prescribed drug called Actos that has been linked to increased risks of Bladder Cancer.  It has already been banned in many European countries and needs to be banned here!

I just found out that this issue has had a VERY PERSONAL affect on my life.  So please share, ask, & tell anyone that is affected by diabetes if they have heard this information.  Information is power!

MIssing Hawaii... already!

Last month, my husband & I took a trip with his family to the Big Island,  Hawaii.  It was my first time there (his 10th or something) and I think I have found my place in this world.  There is something magical about being surrounded by so much beauty & the spirit of "Aloha".  It's a place that EVERYBODY has to visit at some point in their lives.  We didn't go to Honolulu or any place that touristy, but Hilo, more of the local, real Hawaii.  I used to dream about visiting this unbelievable place, but NOW it's my dream to move there & make art!  What a place to live & be inspired everyday!

Starting Anew...

So I know I haven't written a blog post in over a year...
sorry...

BUT, I think I'm ready to start fresh & new!  It's been a busy year.  Births, Deaths, Marriages, Vacations, Work.  I've made a few new sculptures in the last year that, experimented with new techniques, and am inspired to create & share!

I want to get my Etsy shop back up & running & have a few exciting opportunities on the horizon.  Get ready for some awesome new FELTED FUN!!!

So Sorry....

So I know I haven't posted much recently, that's because we've had some tragic family concerns. We lost a VERY loved & (will be) VERY missed member of our family. If you happen to be a friend or family member I just want to Thank You for all the love & support that you have given Lance & I. It only gets easier with time....

So because of the family stuff going on I have been lacking in inspiration with my art work & with my blog. Time heals, and this past weekend I was a vendor at the L.A. Renegade Show. I did WAY WAY WAY better than I was expecting, so if you are a new friend that I met yesterday or an old friend that maybe has been missing me...

I AM BACK!!!

Super motivated & excited about making some awesome piece after this past weekend. So, starting tomorrow I promise to start working & posting stuff more!! Will have a few picts from my booth tomorrow!!!

What a Week!!

So last week was pretty awesome (hence the reason there was no posting). Last Wednesday was my 30th Birthday!! Lance & I went on a vacation... VEGAS BABY!! I love Las Vegas!! We did spend quite alot on the Penny Slots, but I also just love walking around the strip. We spent a good 9-10 hours each day just walking. I love stopping in the casinos & walking around the malls. We didn't buy anything, but it was fun just looking & watching people. Here are some picts from out super fun trip!!







A beautiful picture that Lance took of the fountains at the Bellagio. This is probably one of favorite things in Vegas! It makes me so happy!!












The typical "Party" shot that needs to be taken in Vegas. I have to admit that I didn't get drunk AT ALL!!! We were to full of food & RockStar Energy Drinks to drink much. But felt the need to have the shot!












Lance's first trip to Hoover Dam. It's really beautiful there, but also DAM hot!! It's a nice day-trip if you have the time. About 45 minutes from Vegas.












They are building a giant bridge across the valley of the dam. It's so huge! This picture looks like I'm standing in front of some sort of fake, printed backdrop!














And a decent picture of me! We were at our traditional breakfast at Terrible's Casino. It's the kind of place that has like $5 steak & eggs breakfast. Needed coffee cause it's amazing how you can be hanging out in Vegas & the next thing you know, it's like 3 am. So crazy!!

I love Vegas & miss you already!!!







And I have some drawings to share tomorrow!! I have been working, just needed a break. Have to finally finish the Sparrow today & then working on a fun little project!!

Unique Los Angeles!

If you are in Los Angeles area, be sure to check out the Unique Los Angeles show this weekend!! I was going to be a vendor here, but with everything going on, I decided to ship it this year. We are going today as visitors & to spend money on awesome Handmade Goodies!! The show runs this weekend April 24th & 25th from 11am- 7pm in Down Town. Be sure to go and support your local crafters and see some excellent work!!

And tomorrow, we are going to take an awesome Sunday PCH drive! I love driving up to Mailbu at maybe stopping at Neptune's Net for lunch!!!

Great Weekend!!

Had an awesome (busy) weekend!! Lots of fun family time! Spent Saturday with Lance's family, great time, great food!! And my brother was in town for business Sunday. We met down at the Lakers Game. Great seats, great food!! We even got into the secret "Celebrity Bar" where all the stars go during half-time. Saw a couple celebs: George Lopez & Adrian Brody. Then we met Kobe Bryant after the game (and by-the-way... Kobe is a "hugger")

Sorry for my lack of posts this week. Work & life & Crafting can be overwhelming. Still trying to find that balance. It's making me feel a bit anti-computer. Will try harder in the future!!

Yea!! Today is my man's B-Day. Letting him sleep in, then we will be going to dinner at Sizzlers!! I love Sizzlers!! They have a great salad bar & are budget friendly!! Can't wait!

Holiday Inspiration!!

My Christmas vacation was awesome!! Spent a ton of time with the family, ate too much, drank too much, got a cold, watched WAY WAY WAY too much cable t.v., and didn't do anything crafty what-so-ever. My lack of motivation to create anything was forgotten after my Mom, Dad, and I went to see an amazing holiday (I call it ART) exhibit.









We went to an ICE SHOW!! It was all Grinch themed and was full of beautifully carved and painted ice sculptures. I call this an "Art Exhibit" because you just have to admire the skill & talent of the unnamed artists. It was very inspiring to see some great sculptures, and to remember that it doesn't matter what medium you choose to create with, but what you do with it!!










It was stupid cold in the exhibit, like 5˚... yes, I said 5˚!!!! They gave you a giant parka coat to wear, they had a huge ice slide and much needed hot chocolate at the end of the exhibit. Luckily we went on a weekday after Christmas, but usually the line to get in to the Ice Show is hours long. It was a great experience & after years of my family talking about going, I'm glad we finally made it.

I'm back......

So my vacation was AWESOME!!! We had so much fun, although Lance did say that he likes Nebraska better than Dallas! I think it's that he had so much fun running around on my Aunt's farm with the animals & quiet country-type living for a day. We ate WAY too much, drank WAY too much, and it went by WAY too fast.

So today... back to work! I have another custom order, plus want to make a present for Lance's cousin's birthday. Day-Job is officially over, great to get some money saved up...

BUT...

Didn't get into that craft show I wanted. BOOO!!! Kinda bummed about it, took a big hit on my motivation (and self esteem). But it is what it is, right? Maybe that just means that there will be more Day-Job work coming up & it would have interfered with crafty work. So I guess I gotta get back into blogging everyday. Right now it seems like a daunting task, but I promise that I will get back into it! I guess I gotta get working on new stuff so I have something to write about!

My uncles and his sons made a Haunted House in the barn & a Haunted Hay-Rack Ride in the pasture. We roasted s'mores & hotdogs over the fire, and got to see like a million stars! It was an awesome night!

VACATION HERE I COME!!!

OMG... I am so ready for my vacation tomorrow. I just finished up my scenic job yesterday, so today I gotta run around & catch-up on errands that I haven't gotten to do for the past 3 weeks. Then tomorrow we are off to Nebraska to visit family. These past 3 weeks have gone by so fast & now I officially deserve a vacation!! My shop is on Vacation mode for the next couple days, but I'll be back to business by next Tuesday!

So FYI... FeltedChicken will be back next week!!! YEA!!! I hopefully will have some good news when I get back from Nebraska & I'm sure I will have lots of picts!! Hang on with me just another couple of days, then you'll get your super-awesome-fun FeltedChicken blog back!!!

um... I got noth'n....

Well, I don't really have much to share, but thought I'd post today anyways, although later than usual. I am FINALLY finishing the paint job on the jelleyfish today. Of course I decide to paint on the one day in Southern California that it happens to be cloudy. It looks like it almost kinda sorta wants to rain. My luck....

Went to visit my Aunt in the hospital yesterday. She is looking well & hopefully will get to go home today or tomorrow. She rushed to the hospital in such a hurry she didn't have anything to occupy her time. So I brought her a fun grab-bag full of stuff to keep her busy. I got her a jigsaw puzzle, crossword & word-search books, a trashy novel (my mom's suggestion), some crayons & pens & pencils, a deck of cards, some mouth wash, & other stuff I can't think of. It was fun shopping for her & finding all sorts of fun stuff to buy!!

I am making some presents for the family (& a couple to sell in the shop) that I am also painting today. I'm trying to be proactive & make some seasonal stuff before the season has already past!! So you guess what they are, they are white here, but I think you get the picture.



Hopefully I'll have final picts of the JellyFish to share on Monday!! If the clouds & rain stay away, that is. I love rainy days, you miss them when you don't get them that often!

Blogging from my Iphone!!

So, we seem to be having some problems with our Internet today, hopefully an easily fixable one & not a wait around the house for a repair guy one. It's been a pretty crappy weeks thus far, but it can only go up from here, right?!?!? (hopefully) have had some unforseen expenses & USPS problems, but on the bright side, I have a meeting at UCLA today. It's just an informational meeting to find out about the program& to check out the campus. I'm excited! Hopefully it will kick my butt back into wanting to make some art work, been feeling a little unmotivated this past week. Have a great idea for my next sculpture... And maybe I will document it and post as I go along this time to show my process. It's gonna be the most abmitious yet!!! (I hope all of my spelling is correct in this, the keyboard is really tiny & it's kinda hard to type) so everybody wish me luck today!! And I'll be back to my regular blogging schedule soon!

I'm back......

So finally back to business here in L.A.. I had a great vacation. There is nothing like spending cool summer evenings hanging out, drink'n beer, talking with family. I miss them already! We had a blast: We had a birthday party, babysat my 1 1/2 year old niece (which is amazing, yet exhausting), went shopping, saw Land of the Lost (which is the movie I worked on last year), drank beer, ate too much, and spent quality time with the family. I got back last Thursday, and took the rest of the weekend off. My boyfriend's mom had a great late birthday get-together, and they got me a Kindle!!! It's awesome, it is the year of the gadgits.

If you don't know what a Kindle is & you love to read, then you are missing out! It's an electronic reading gadgit that allows you to download 1000's of book directly to the device. It has it's own WiFi, so you don't have to connect it to your computer, and all of the books are pretty much under $10. It's about the size of a TV Guide magazine, which is great because when I was flying home, my carry-on bag was so heavy cause I felt the need to take 4 books on the plane with me. I've only downloaded one book so far, Aesop's Fables, but I'm sure it'll be stashed in my bag wherever I go!!!


So after a great vacation, I woke up today ready to get back to business. Unfortunately I also woke up to some customer service problems. I got an email from a customer who said that she never recieved her package. Of course it had to be a package I sent to an overseas Military Base, which was the first time I had to fill out a Customs form. I checked on her Delivery Confirmation & USPS said they had no further information. GRRRR.... I emailed her back, said I would look into it, and refund her purchase & send her a replacement for free. I think I handled it pretty well, it was bound to happen, but based on the number of items I've sold, I figured it wouldn't happen so soon. If anyone has any further advice please let me know.

Well... Back to work... Back to eating healthy... Back to Crafting... Back to trying to exercise... Back to real life...

SUMMER: The season of HOT!!!

So I'm in Dallas right now & it just reminds me how HOT HOT HOT summer can be!! Growing up in Texas, summer is not the season of lazy beach days, evening BBQ's, & pool parties. Instead it's the season of staying inside with the air conditioner. It's the reverse of having Winter Cabin Fever. You get Summer Air Conditioning Fever!! You just don't go out when it's 110˚ outside!

Southern California is a little different. Make no mistake, it gets HOT in the summer! My mom came to visit me a couple of years ago in July & it was the hottest summer ever recorded. It was 126˚ one day. The biggest difference is the hummidity! 126˚ is hot no matter what, but usually you can sit in the shade and it's a slight relief. When it's 110˚ with 90% hummidity, there is no escape!!!


I hope everyone enjoys the last week of Spring! Summer is here to stay!

Summer, Summer!!!!

Yep... It's getting to be that time again... SUMMER!!! I'm a pretty big fan of summer, well, at first. I love the warmer weather, long days, going to the beach, BBQ's, cold beer, vacations, movies, fireworks, etc. My birthday is at the beginning of summer & I always remember having pool-parties & icecream cake!! Then there always is the summer vacation!! Last year & again this year I have been fortunate enough to be able to take 2 weeks & visit my family in Dallas. I'm going next week & get to spend the time lounging by the pool, drinking beer, shopping, watching cable t.v., hanging out with my mom, dad, brother, sister, & niece!! Then if I'm super lucky, maybe Lance will take me to Vegas for a get-away weekend!! Again - lounging by the pool, drinking beer, watching cable t.v. & hanging out with the boy!!

BUT...
Then there is the darker side of summer...

I hate wearing shorts. Period. My cats get sooooo hot & miserable (I have to get my fat cat's hair shaved so that it's a bit cooler for him). I don't have air conditioning, & can NEVER cool off. You take a shower & can't seem to ever dry off. The BLAZING black leather seats in my car that give me 3rd degree burns. Sweat. The never ending "summer" of late September.

I think those things get to me once the "honeymoon" time of summer has past. Like an annoying ex-boyfriend, it just won't go away!! But hey, after all of that, there is fall - My FAVORITE season!!!

Here is my birthday present to myself this year, a fun & exciting reminder of those lazy stress-free summer days of childhood!!

Slow & Tired!

Blah... So hard to get back to work after having a great fun weekend with the family. Did some sightseeing, ate some food, drank some beer, and am still recovering.

Plus, yesterday Lance & I went and saw the new X-men movie at Grauman's Chinese Theater. That place is beautiful!! It is a HUGE theater & there were only about 10 people in it. We then went to Sizzler's to finish off the weekend of gluttony!!

So hopefully today & tomorrow I'll be getting back into the computer & crafty thing. Trying to finish off a new Critter & need to work on some new designs for future stuff. I'll leave you with a couple of pictures from my fun, family weekend!

Fun Family Weekend!!

YEA!!! My brother & sister-in-law are in town this weekend. Bro is doing business, but sis is here to hangout! She's never been to L.A. so we have to drive around & do the typical "sight-seeing" thing today. We will probably just hit the Burbank-Hollywood-Beverly Hills-Santa Monica line. They are staying in a fancy hotel on the beach, so it's a perfect route to see the main sights! I'll try & take some pictures of us & post 'em on Monday.

SideNote- Just had to share the comical events of yesterday. This is what happened to me all within the hour of 12-1 pm:

-Drove to drop off food at food bank (I guess they don't want to "Stamp Out Hunger" in Hollywood cause they never picked up my food last Saturday) - VACANT BUILDING!!!
-Driving to do laundry - ALMOST GOT IN ACCIDENT!!
-Laundromat - DOOR CHAINED & CLOSED
-Grocery Store - POWER WENT OUT!!!
-Went Home.

I seriously thought I was getting "Punked" or something. I pretty much took it with a smile & came home & sat my butt on the couch for the rest of the day!!!

I know it's technically a day late, but I hope everybody had a great Mother's Day. I didn't get around to making anything, so I sent flowers to both Mine & Lance's mom. They were both plants so, so hopefully they can bring some happiness long after blooms would have wilted.

We also saw Star Trek.... um... awesome. I am such an Uber Geek - I find myself watching Discovery & History Channel Documentaries in my spare time, and I keep up with the Science News daily. BTW - today they are launching the Space Shuttle to give the Hubble Telescope a fine tune-up. I actually got most of the Science & Physics mumbo-jumbo in the movie.

ALSO!!!! Don't forget the price of stamps goes up today to 44¢!!!

Have A Good Weekend?!?!?!

My weekends is starting today, but hope everybody had a great weekend. So sad that I missed my little niece's First Birthday party!! Can't wait till I get pictures, and I hear she loved the Dinosaur I bought her. I think every little kid needs to have dinosaurs (boy or girl).

YEA!!! They had a ton of fun & luckily both my Grandparents were able to be in town to help celebrate.

I had an uneventful weekend. We are having some "June Gloom" around here which is affecting my picture taking. "June Gloom" is a weather thing we have here in SoCal where it's cloudy & hazy every morning, but burns off by afternoon. I'll get my pictures in at some point in the next couple days.


I also experimented in some more kool-aid dying. I dyed a tuft of wool in every yummy color!! I'll have pictures and notes on this in the next couple days. I'm so proud of myself, I posted 1 item everyday for a while now. I'm coming quickly up on 50 items in my shop!!! Maybe there will have to be some sort of Give-Away to help celebrate!!!!!
