New law could wipe out handcrafted toy makers
A new regulation taking effect next month that's intended to guarantee children protection from lead exposure may put some indie toy makers out of business.
this is from an article on cnn.com. it is regarding the CPSIA - Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act which is scheduled to go into effect on February 10th. Basically this law states that all toys, books, clothing, art, educational supplies, materials for the learning disabled, bicycles, etc. that is made or sold to the american public must be go through a testing and certification process that can cost up to $4000 per item!!
the language of the law needs to be changed to either exempt items made of natural materials (wool, wood, cotton, etc) or to require suppliers to certify materials for safety.
