Amazing Artist...

So just had to link to this Artist I saw on one of my favorite Blogs - Make: Online - It's the more Macho Brother of Craft: Online. It usually posts about all sorts of Tech-type subject or (in this case) AMAZING ARTISTS!! I just had to link to Matthew Albanese's website because I was blown away by the amazing photographs. He creates miniature landscapes, lights them, then photographs them. It's amazing to see each photo then read the Materials list, which includes things like "cotton, steel wool, sugar, paprika...".

Freak'n Amazing!!

Featured Blogger - NICO Designs!

**Thanx for all the comments about Crafts Shows yesterday!! It was awesome to see the variety of ideas that people have. I think it gave me a lot to think about, but I agree with your guys, definitely showcase my sculptures with my own "voice" coming through the displays.... BUT... I think I can capitalize on the Girly, Spring Feel of the show with a few specific items... Yea.. that sounds about right...

It's January & since I've been really bad about keeping up with the requirements of my EtsyBlogger team, I wanted to be sure that I got them done this month!! So I'm writing today's post on my fellow EtsyBlogger..... NICO Designs.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these little stuffed pears that NICO Designs has in her Etsy Shop right now. They are PERFECT for the season & are made from cotton fabric scraps & eco-spun Felt.

I think NICO has a great eye for the interesting patterns she uses in her items. I like the retro feel of the patterns, they might be scrap, but they look vintage!

NICO Designs has also started to create these sweet little Art Dolls. On Blog she gives a little background about what inspired each one. They are lovely and, again, have a very retro, maybe even Art Deco feel to them. They kind of remind me of those figurative antique jewelry stands.

Also be sure to check out NICO Design's Blog!! She has all sorts of neat stories about her art, and (from a fellow blogger point of view) has a great Blog Design. I like how she post's a kind of "Question of the Day" and has links to "You might like this".

Now that I'm blogging more, I guess it's time to try and update & innovate my blog design!!! It's just that I loved reading all the comments yesterday & need to figure out how to get you guys talking more!!!

Lovely Feature!

Had a nice surprise this morning when I saw that I was featured in an article on MyShoppingConnection - Great Finds for Fine Living. It is a beautful & comfy post called "Warm by the Fire". Inspired, I'm sure, by the arctic freeze that is gripping most of the United States right now... except, of course, here in Southern California where it's been in the 70's and 80's for the past couple weeks.

Please check out my Felted Log on the "Warm and cozy fireplace finds on Etsy!" post!!

Pleasant Surprise!

Got a great convo from an awesome fellow Etsy Seller & Blogger this morning - HandmadeBySandi. She featured me on her blog today in her "My Favorite Shop" section!! I love her blog name "The T-Shirt Lady" and her story & bio are great...

The name T-Shirt Lady, came from my husband. He goes hunting a lot, and didn’t want to use his cell phone to stay in touch with me. So he bought us a pair of cb radios and decided on my ‘name’!

We have a farmette, raise melons and vegetables for foodbanks. Actually he does most of the farming – grin – I

just get on the tractor every once in awhile.

When I am not on the tractor, I work on my t-shirt business. I love to sew, crochet and embroider and have combined all of my favorite things into an on-line business. If you would like to see what my business is all about – I’m at Sandi’s T’s

She has all sorts of great, totally functional items in her shop. Her little "Boo Boo Bunnies" are so clever & cute!! So be sure to stop by her Etsy Shop & Blog and help me spread the Crafty Love!!

Just Spreading the Etsy Love!!

Wanted to shared with you some amazing Etsy News!! A super-awesome-great friend that I knew while living in Baltimore is the Etsy Feature Seller this week!!! It's so great because her & her husband have been working hard for years to build their crafty business. PLUS, she just quit her day-job as an elementary school art teacher this year & was nervous about how well she would do by supporting herself with her art. Well... Shawna... it seems to be working out great for you!!!

Congrats Shawna!!! Please click on the links & check out her interview & shop!!!

I work on my pots the same way I would work a collage, adding layers and layers until I have the image that makes sense to me. I think of little stories as I work, imagining that one creature is running from another or that a bunny was just caught nibbling on some radishes in the garden.

Artist's Block...

Uhhh...
Yea...

So I think I've got writer's & artist's block. I just don't have any ideas. I am finishing up a couple of sculptures that I've been working on for the past week, they are pretty cool, not my best. I learned alot of new techniques & tricks to speed up future projects, but nothing to inspire me into jumping into a new project. I will take some pictures today & share them tomorrow. I practiced some surface design ideas, tried my hand with stenciling, practiced airbrushing, & found some great ways to do some quick line work (which I hated before cause it takes too long.)

But...

Need some inspiration. How do you work through an artist's block, do you take time off, or do you just keep working through it. I know it will pass & I'll be up & running with some uber ambitious piece sooner or later, but I got nothing else to do for the moment. Maybe I'll work on organizing my supplies & making some prefelt for when I get an idea. Anybody got any suggestions!?!?!?!

Maybe I'll visit a museum, or read some books that I have stacked up, or play with electronics & making a robot. So sorry if I'm a bit flaky with posting things for a short time!!!!!

I hate posting things without pictures, so I'll leave you with a list of my Etsy Favorite's for your viewing pleasure!!

Maybe something from one of these amazing artists will inspire you!!!

JellyFish is DONE!!

Yea! I'm very excited to present the finished JellyFish! Just to give you a brief description of what he is...

JellyFish - This sculpture is made of thin sheets of Nuno Felt with white Romney Wool & White Tulle. He was then needle felted over a stiff wire armature. He has glowing "El Wire" inside his tentacles that glows bright blue in dim light. The "El Wire" runs on 4 AA batteries & the controllers are stored inside a drawstring pouch that is sewn beneath the mess of tentacles at the bottom, which also helps create a stable base. Once sculpted he was airbrushed with fabric & acrylic paints.

jellyfish3jellyfish2*

I love how the photos in the dim light turned out!! I like how you can see how the "El Wire" really glows. So neat!! I really wanted to make something... pretty, or beautiful. I wanted it to be all flowy & pink. I am happy with how it turned out. I will be listing him in my Etsy shop at some point today. I think I've officially outgrown the target handmade market of Etsy & should really be focusing on more fine art. My pieces are just becoming too expensive to really sell, but I will have a few affordable pieces coming up in the near future!!!

Etsy's - memoriesforlifesb

Hope everybody had a great weekend! We didn't do much really. I worked a bit on my newest sculpture, which hopefully I can have some update pictures of today. I was going to try out a brand new technique, but since the wasps were trying to dive-bomb me outside, I didn't get to play with it. I think it will work out really well, so tomorrow I'll share more. So I thought today I would share my monthly Featured Etsy seller and fellow blogger....

memoriesforlifesb on Etsy

memoriesforlifesb Blog

This amazing artist makes some very beautiful and very fun hand-made scrap book albums. I love how she makes her own albums from scratch. it reminds me of when I took book-making in college & all of the fun techniques I learned about book binding & laminating album covers. But memoriesforlifesb takes all of those basic techniques and has come up with some very unique and creative items.

I love this album. It's a great sculptural scrapbook that can sit on any surface, a desk or table or mantel. I like how it very elegant, plus you can customize it anyways you'd like.

Star Shaped Scrapbook Photo Album - $20

And this item is super cute and really really really creative. It's a scrapbook album that's made from flip-flops!! This one is for your recent grad, but she also makes custom book, and I think this would be great to remember you favorite beach vacation!!!!!

Graduation Flip Flop Scrapbook Album - $20

So please check out her shop & blog!!! I also wanted to leave you with a picture of my very first Flower from my Plumeria tree!!! I had 2 blooms before, but one fell off, not sure how, but there are a few more starting to bloom up, but I think it's beautiful!!!

Had to Post again...

So I totally forgot to write a post for June for my EtsyBloggers Team. I think I wrote one for the Blog Carnival, but totally flaked on writing a post for this month's Feature Etsy Blogger, so it's only a day late.... So here we go!!!

This month's featured Etsy seller & blogger is LazyTcrochet.
This fellow Etsian works out of Cleveland, and creates some beautiful crocheted pieces. She has so much variety in the item in her shop. Everything from traditional crocheted hats & scarves & slippers, to her hilarious Moustache Coffee Cup Sleeve!!! I love it!!!

This Coffee Sleeve makes me smile!!! Also be sure to check out the blog:

LazyTcrochet

Her blog is a great insight to her everyday life & interests. She includes awesome, yummy recipes, fun links to crafty give-aways, & even the beautiful collection of her Esty Favorite's (she has great taste!!).

Please help support my fellow Estians by stopping by her shop & blog!!!

Feature Friday 5/29

So I just joined a great Etsy Street Team: EtsyBloggers!! I think it's going to be really fun because they give you posting requirements to complete during the month. The first is a Blog Carnival. It's kinda like an online zine with a theme. You have to write a post about a given topic, and then they complie them and post it! The other requirement is to write a post about the month's featured EtsyBlogger. I think this will expose me to new and exciting artists that I never would have ever seen.

This month's EtsyBlogger is CREATEaTHOUGHT. Very creative & witty from the start! She has a great quote that would inspire any artist:

There are thousands of thoughts lying within a man that he does not know till he takes up the pen and writes. ~William Makepeace Thackeray

CREATEaTHOUGHT offers all sorts of items to help you record your own words & ideas in unique and one-of-a-kind style. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these Bingo was this journal-o!!

I'm a pretty big sucker for fun sketchbooks! She also offers many other items in her store including everything from upcycled journals, to buttons, to ACEO cards, to jewelry, to home decor stuff, to the kitchen sink. She is truly a Modern Renaissance woman!!

Please check out her shop and the CREATEaTHOUGHT Blog & help support my new friends at the EtsyBlogger Street Team!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Fun Family Weekend!!

YEA!!! My brother & sister-in-law are in town this weekend. Bro is doing business, but sis is here to hangout! She's never been to L.A. so we have to drive around & do the typical "sight-seeing" thing today. We will probably just hit the Burbank-Hollywood-Beverly Hills-Santa Monica line. They are staying in a fancy hotel on the beach, so it's a perfect route to see the main sights! I'll try & take some pictures of us & post 'em on Monday.

SideNote- Just had to share the comical events of yesterday. This is what happened to me all within the hour of 12-1 pm:

-Drove to drop off food at food bank (I guess they don't want to "Stamp Out Hunger" in Hollywood cause they never picked up my food last Saturday) - VACANT BUILDING!!!
-Driving to do laundry - ALMOST GOT IN ACCIDENT!!
-Laundromat - DOOR CHAINED & CLOSED
-Grocery Store - POWER WENT OUT!!!
-Went Home.

I seriously thought I was getting "Punked" or something. I pretty much took it with a smile & came home & sat my butt on the couch for the rest of the day!!!

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Favorites Friday!!!
(Honestly, I am just lazy & find it so much easier to just copy & paste an "Etsy Mini", instead of listing individuals, think of it as my own mini Treasury!)

For all of the Blythe fans, do check out a great friend's brand new shop. I work with her at my day job (scenic sculpting), & she has recently started to refinish & custom up-cycle vintage Barbie Accessories into new & funky play sets. PartyDolly - be sure to check out here awesome "Tiki Bar Play Set"!!!

MadeByLaura is based out of California & these are a couple of adorable Tiny Teddy bears that are sized perfectly to go with your Blyth Doll. She's been busy, busy felting these bears so I thought I would feature her hard work. She also has a hilarious I Can Make That Blog, makes me laugh everyday!!

forestblue, a brand new seller to Etsy, I found while surfing the pages of Flickr. I love the picture with the cow in the back. forestblue is based out of Amsterdam, so here is a shout out to our international felters!!!

SeaStarStudios, although not technically a felter, a new friend none the less. As new to Etsy as me, SeaStarStudios is based out of Central California & makes Cute Critters out of polymer clay. She also has these beautiful Beach Glass jewelry.

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
